We Cannot Remain Silent: The Urgency of Missions

The world is filled with voices—some crying out in desperation, others searching for hope. As believers, we have been entrusted with the greatest message ever told: the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet, in the face of a lost and broken world, we cannot afford to stay silent. The urgency of missions is not just a calling for a select few; it is a mandate for all who follow Christ.

A World in Need

Every day, people enter eternity without knowing the love of Jesus. According to the Joshua Project, over 3.2 billion people remain unreached—meaning they have little or no access to the gospel. These are not just statistics; they are real lives, real souls, and real families living without hope.

We don’t have time to be passive. Every delay means another soul that may never hear the good news. Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19 is not optional:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

This commission is urgent because time is running out. The return of Christ is nearer today than it was yesterday, and our responsibility is to proclaim the gospel while there is still time.

We Have the Answer

The world is desperately searching for meaning. People turn to wealth, success, relationships, and pleasure to fill the void only Christ can satisfy. But we, as followers of Jesus, have the answer. We know the One who brings peace to the restless, healing to the broken, and salvation to the lost.

Paul reminds us in Romans 10:14-15:

“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?”

If we do not go, if we do not speak, how will they ever know?

The Cost of Silence

Throughout history, the church has grown because people refused to stay silent. The early apostles risked everything to spread the gospel. Missionaries have left behind comfort, safety, and even their own lives to take the name of Jesus to the nations. The cost of silence is far greater than the cost of obedience.

In Ezekiel 33:7-8, God speaks of the watchman’s responsibility to warn others:

“So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked one, you shall surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.”

If we remain silent, people perish without ever knowing the love of Christ. And we, who had the truth and did nothing, will have to answer for our inaction.

How Do We Respond?

1. Pray – Ask God to break your heart for the lost. Pray for missionaries, unreached people groups, and divine opportunities to share the gospel.

2. Give – Support missions financially. Your resources can send missionaries, translate Bibles, and fund outreach efforts in places where the gospel has never been heard.

3. Go – Whether across the street or across the world, we must be willing to go. Be intentional about sharing Christ in your workplace, school, or neighborhood. Consider short-term or long-term missions if God calls you.

4. Send – Encourage and equip those who are called to go. Be a sending church, a discipler, or a supporter of those stepping into mission fields.

We Cannot Remain Silent

The urgency of missions is real. There is no time for apathy, no space for excuses. Jesus gave His life so that all may know Him. Now, He calls us to take this message to the ends of the earth.

Will you answer the call, or will you remain silent? The world is waiting. Let’s go.
