When most people hear the word “missionary,” they picture someone boarding a plane, learning a new language, and traveling to a distant nation to share the gospel. We celebrate and support those missionaries because every nation deserves to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.
But God doesn’t call every missionary to cross an ocean.
Some He calls to cross a street.
For Angie and me, God has called us to be missionaries right here in America.
Yes, our ministry focuses on a specific community. We spend our days serving foster families, adoptive families, children from hard places, and the people who care for them. We train parents, equip churches, encourage social workers, and advocate for vulnerable children. That is our mission field.
But our mission is bigger than foster care.
Our mission is the gospel.
We believe every person deserves the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ. Why? Because Jesus loves the world. Not part of the world. Not certain people in the world. The world.
When Jesus gave His followers the Great Commission, He said they would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Sometimes we read that verse as if “the ends of the earth” is always somewhere else. Yet if you were standing in Jerusalem today, America would certainly qualify as the ends of the earth. This is where God has planted us. This is where He has sent us. This is our mission field.
And America desperately needs the gospel.
We live in a nation with unprecedented access to information, yet many people have never truly encountered Jesus. We are more connected digitally than ever before, yet loneliness, anxiety, depression, and hopelessness continue to rise. Families are struggling. Marriages are under pressure. Children are growing up without stability. Many people are searching for purpose, identity, and hope in places that can never satisfy.
The challenges may look different than they do in other nations, but the need is the same.
People need Jesus.
The foster and adoption community reminds us of this reality every day. We meet children carrying deep wounds. We meet parents who are exhausted and overwhelmed. We meet families who need practical support, but also something more. They need hope. They need healing. They need the transforming power of the gospel.
The gospel is not simply a message about getting to heaven someday. It is the good news that Jesus changes lives today. He heals broken hearts. He restores families. He forgives sins. He gives purpose to the lost and hope to the hurting.
That is why we continue this work.
We are missionaries to America.
We may not need passports to reach our mission field, but we carry the same message that missionaries have carried for generations. We believe every child matters. Every family matters. Every community matters. Every soul matters.
And as long as there are people who have not experienced the love and grace of Jesus, the mission is not finished.
Thank you to every person who prays, gives, volunteers, and stands with us. Together, we are bringing hope to vulnerable children, strengthening families, and sharing the gospel right here in America.
The mission field is all around us.
And God has called us here.
